Substance Free Living
Student housing at NIACC is substance free – the
possession and use of alcohol and illegal drugs are prohibited in the
residence halls and apartments. Alcohol possession and consumption is not
allowed even if a student is 21 or older. NIACC’s residence halls and
apartments are also tobacco free.
Professional Staff
There are full-time professional staff who live and/or
work in the residence halls and apartments. The head residents are directly
involved in supervising the resident assistants, planning and hosting
activities, helping residents with personal issues or concerns, and
enforcing the student housing policies.
Resident Assistants
Each floor has a Resident Assistant (RA) to support
fellow student residents. RA’s are sophomore students, chosen through
application and interview, who have demonstrated their leadership. They are
responsible for holding floor meetings, planning floor activities,
representing the residents, and being a resource to residents having
questions, concerns, or personal issues.
Security
Housing security also helps to ensure a safe and enjoyable living
environment. Security cameras located inside and outside the residence halls
as well as 24-hour availability of professional staff provide a protected
setting. There are also security call boxes located all across campus.
Expectations
Mutual respect and consideration for each other’s
space, property, and being is expected at all times within the student
housing community. Behaviors which demean, threaten, or harm another person
or another’s rights or property will not be tolerated. Residents who
demonstrate inappropriate behaviors and infringe upon others or others’
property, including NIACC property, will be asked to leave.
Why Not Live on Campus?
Living on campus puts you in the middle of all the
action! On-campus student housing allows you to live, work, learn, and
experience the transition to college with others going through the same
anxieties, excitement, and challenges. Living on campus facilitates and
enhances your educational experiences and opportunities. So, instead of
asking yourself why you should live on campus, ask, "Why not?!"
Housing Application Timeline
The best time to apply for housing in the residents halls
is as soon as possible. Students often send in their Student Housing
Application/Contract soon after they apply for admissions at NIACC. Students
are assigned in a sequence determined by the date that the signed
application/contract and application fee are received. You will receive
confirmation that your completed
application/contract was received, then you will receive your room
assignment mid-summer.
Moving In
You may move in the weekend before the semester begins.
The specific dates and times will be noted in your assignment letter.
