Team Routs Gold for 3-1 Series Lead
Box Score
The Blue team started off strong with a
3-run first inning and never looked back, as they routed the Gold 9-2 on
Tuesday.
In the bottom of the first, the Blue rattled of five
singles in a row. Tim Mettert (Chanhassen, MN), Joe Peters (Apple Valley, MN),
Eddy Diosdado (Fort Dodge, IA), Spenser Popinga (Mason City, IA), and Drew
Presler all knocked singles through off Gold starter Patrick Burns (Alagate,
Aus). Diosdado, Popinga, and Presler all picked up RBI's to take an early 3-0
lead.
In the second, Santiago Morales (West St. Paul, MN)
lead-off the inning with a hit-by-pitch, followed by a Mettert single. Mettert
would steal second to give the Blue runners at 2nd and 3rd. Peters would drive
in both runs with a single to make it 5-0.
That is all Blue starter Parker Moorman (Mason City, IA) would need. Moorman
pitched six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck
out four.
The Gold tried to put together a rally in the 3rd and fourth innings. Jordan
Huffman (Sergeant Bluff, IA) lead-off the top of the 3rd with a double to
right-center. Scott Welter (Cedar Falls, IA) would drive Huffman in on a two-out
single to cut the lead to 5-1.
In the fourth, the Gold strung four hits together. Mikko Norman (Racine, MN)

with a double. Huffman's single would score Norman to make it 5-2. Another
single from Alex Ausenhus (Mason City, IA) would load the bases with two-outs
and bring up Jordan Rishavy (Rochester, MN). Rishavy laced a 2-2 pitch from
Moorman into right field. Diosdado would make a running catch to end the threat.
The Blue would tack on two insurance runs in the fifth. Diosdado lead-off the
inning getting hit by a pitch, Popinga would single. Travis Rahe (Dyersville,
IA) would reach on an error to load the bases. For Morales and Josh Carr (St.
Louis, MO) would draw RBI walks to extend the lead to 7-2.
In the sixth it was more of the same for Blue. Joe Peters would reach on an
error and Popinga collected his third single of the game. After Peters and
Popinga moved up on a balk, Presler's 2-run single would make the game 9-2.
Gold starter Patrick Burns was chased early. Burns went two innings, giving up
five runs on seven hits.
The Blue/Gold World Series resumes with game five on Thursday. Game time is 3:00
