NIACC CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS COMPETE AT NATIONALS IN PEORIA, IL

The Men's and Women's Cross Country were in Peoria, Il this past weekend to run in NJCAA Cross Country Championships. A total of 70 teams competed for the Men and Women combined. Of the 35 teams on the Men's side NIACC finished 11th. The top NIACC finisher was Brandon Liebold with a time of 26:58 in the 8K race. Casey Robertson finished 3 seconds later at a time of 27:01. Kalyn Kruckenberg was the top finisher for NIACC on the Women's side with a time of 20:01. The women as a team finished 20th out of the 35 teams competing.

The Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams were in Peoria, IL on October 31 for Regional's. There were five teams competing in the 8K race for the men and four for the women. As a team the men took third with Raleigh Morgan being the highest NIACC finisher. Morgan finished third overall with a time of 28:22. Morgan was named First Team All-Region. Brandon Liebold was next highest finisher at ninth with a time of 28:43. Liebold was named to Second Team All-Region.
Kalyn Kruckenberg was named to First Team All-Region after posting a time of 20:38 in the 5k run for the Women's Cross Team. Kruckenberg finished third overall. As a team the women took second.
Both teams with their great performance this past weekend have earned a birth for Nationals back at Peoria on November 14,2009

NIACC CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS COMPETE IN THE DR. TUCKER INVITATIONAL

The Men and Women's Cross Country Teams ran in the Dr. Tucker Invitational sponsored by Loras College in Dubuque,IA. The Men had 4 teams competing with around 150 runners. NIACC took second behind host Loras College in Team Standings. Individually, NIACC top runner went to Sophmore Casey Robertson who finished third overall with a time of 27:15. For the women 3 teams and around 50 runners competed in the 6K race. NIACC finished second in team standings
with Kalyn Kruckenberg finishing 6th overall with a time of 24:33.

Both the Men's and Women's Cross Country teams ran in the Dan Huston Invitational in
Waverly, IA this past Saturday. For the Men there were 13 teams and 206 runners competing in the 8km race. Top finisher for NIACC was Sophomore Casey Robertson with a time of 26:59. As a team NIACC finished 10th. On the Women's side the length of the race was 6km over 178 runners and 11 teams. Freshman Kalyn Kruckenberg was top NIACC finisher with a time of 24:15 and the team took 11th.

NIACC CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS COMPETE IN THE BRISSMAN/LUNDEEN INVITE

This past Friday the Men's and Women's Cross Country ran in the Brissman/Lundeen Invite which was held in Davenport. For the men there were 26 teams competing in the 8K race. On the women's side 21 teams competed in the 5420 meter run. NIACC men's team took 9th and the women took 17th. For the Men, the top finisher was Casey Robertson with a time of 26:32 and good enough for 31st, on the women's side Kalyn Kruckenberg finished in 33rd with a time of 21:27.

Both the Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams competed in the Iowa Intercollegiate Meet on September 19,2009. Some of the teams that competed were University of Iowa, Morningside College, Central College and others. Kalyn Kruckenberg was a big bright spot as her time in the 5K of 20:34 is good enough to put her at #5 of best times here at NIACC. Below are the top times for the runners for the Men and Women in the 8K and 5K respectively'

NIACC Cross Country Team Signs Two Local Athletes
Head Coach, Curtis Vais, signed two local high school athletes for the 2009 Cross Country season, Brett Castek of Osage and Kalyn Kruckenberg of Mason City Newman. Brett Castek is a 4-time state cross country qualifier and this past season was the Class 2A Runner-up with a time of 16:17. Brett's other Cross Country accomplishments include ; District Champion, 2008 North Iowa Conference Champion, Meet Medalist in every meet in 2008, 5 meet titles, 4-time Conference Medalist, and 4-time Varsity Letter winner. Osage Boys Cross Country Head Coach commented that "Brett has consistently set high standards for himself throughout his high school years, both in academics and athletics. He has a calm nature and positive attitude, showing leadership by example on a strong team." After signing his Letter of Intent to run for NIACC next season, Brett said "I am looking forward to joining the NIACC Cross Country team and cannot wait to be a part of an already successful program,"
Kalyn Kruckenberg will be a strong addition to the NIACC Cross Country team next season. Kalyn is a 4-time state Cross Country qualifier where she placed 9th her Freshman and Sophomore seasons. She is also a 2-time 1500 & 3000 state qualifier for track, where she hopes to qualify again her Senior season. Kalyn commented that "I am very happy to be going to NIACC next year. I am looking forward to carrying on the family tradition at NIACC, and I am very excited about running at the college level." Coach Vais expressed that " I am very excited to add two of the area's top runners to our Cross Country program in 2009. Both Kalyn and Brett had a lot of success in the high school and I'm sure they will find some kind of success at the college level because they have such a drive in them to become better."
