
Head Coach Curtis Vais enters his 6th year with NIACC, having helped his program make giant strides on the National scene since 2004. Last fall the men and women’s team finished 2nd at the Region XI meet. At the NJCAA Division I National Championship meet the men finished 13th while the women finished 18th.
Individually Vais’ athletes have earned four USTCA All-American honors and 39 ICCAC All-Regions awards. Two of Vais’ runners have also earned Region XI Runner of the Year honors.
Before arriving in Mason City, Vais was an assistant coach at College of Dupage, helping the women’s track team to the NJCAA Division III National title while helping the men’s team place second.
Vais was a three-time NAIA national qualifier while at Mount St. Clare (now Ashford University) in Clinton, Iowa. He continues to enjoy competing in Marathons and Triathlons while raising his son Jacob with his wife Michele.

Marcy Hyde is in her 3rd year as an assistant coach at NIACC. A graduate of Meservey-Thorton high school, she holds the schools records in the mile, two-mile, and the 4X800 meter relay team. She earned a degree in accounting/computer from NIACC and went on to receive her B.A. in financing and banking from Buena Vista Unviersity.
A lover of running, Coach Hyde, has been running in five and 10 kilometer road races for a number of years. Not able to run competitively in college, Hyde, enrolled at NIACC at the age of 40 to do just that.
