
WAVERLY (October 6, 2007) - Dan Mayer (Redfield/West Central Valley) finished 15th individually in the men's race and Kacy Nehowig (Paynesville, MN/HS) was 20th in the women's competition as North Iowa Community College competed at the Don Huston Invitational at Wartburg College on Saturday.
Mayer ran the 8,000 meter men's race in 28 minutes, 27 seconds to lead the Trojans, who finished seventh out of eight teams with 187 points. Iowa Central Community College's Joshua Sawe was the individual medalist in 26:44 and Iowa Central (23 points) won the team title over Augustana College (58) and the host school (61).
Nehowig ran a 26:15 for 6,000 meters while Steph Wedo (Castalia/Postville) was 55th in 31:14 as the lone NIACC women participants on a hot and humid day. Iowa Central's Lydia Kosgie (24:00) was the individual medalist while Wartburg (24) was the team champion.
Both Mayer and Nehowig, along with Kelly Ipsen, have compiled some of National Junior College Athletic Association's top-rated times individually. NIACC's men are rated 16th in the latest NJCAA poll while the women are 22nd. The Trojans compete Friday at the Dr. Robert Tucker Invitational at Loras College in Dubuque.
