Men move up three spots, Women up one

MASON CITY (September 26, 2007) - North Iowa Area Community College's men's cross country team moved into a tie for 15th in the most recent National Junior College Athletic Association poll, up from 18th last week, after a strong performance at the Brissman/Lundeen Invitational in Davenport last Friday.

Dan Mayer was 24th of 409 runners with a time of 26:03, his best time as a Trojan, and his 8,000-meter time is in the top 40 of individual performances among NJCAA runners. Mayer was the top returnee from a team that finished 12th nationally last fall.

In the women's poll, NIACC moved into a tie for 21st nationally, a nudge up from 22nd last week. Kelly Ipsen's 24:39 at the Brissman/Lundeen Invitational (6,000 meters) puts her 12th among individual performances and teammate Kacy Nehowig's 25:13 puts her 16th.

Already, NIACC has had some team success as both the men and women won the Waubonsee Community College Chiefs Invitational in Sugar Grove, IL. The Trojans, coached by Curtis Vais, next compete at an invitational held on the campus of Wartburg College on October 6.
