
CEDAR RAPIDS (September 4, 2007) - The NIACC men’s cross country team finished second overall at the Mt. Mercy College Mustang Gallop last Saturday as Dan Mayer (Redfield/West Central Valley) placed second individually with a 5-kilometer time of 17 minutes, 2 seconds at Jones Park.
Colombian student Juan Rodriguez was ninth in 17:33, Sam Meyer (Wykoff, MN/Kingsland) was 10th in 17:38 and Sean Coleman (Imperial, MO/Seckman) was 12th in 17:44 for the Trojans, who totaled 47 team points to finish second to Coe College.
In the women’s race, NIACC placed fifth with 104 points as Kacy Nehowig (Paynesville, MN/HS) ran four kilometers in 16:12 for fourth individually. Kelly Ipsen (Homestead/Iowa Valley) was seventh in 16:34, Steph Wedo (Castalia/Postville) was 30th in 18:22 and Mason City/Newman Catholic alum Megan Krones (18:25) was 32nd for head coach Curtis Vais’ team. Cornell College was the team champion with 32 points.
NIACC will run in the Waubonsee Community College Chiefs Invitational Saturday in Sugar Grove, IL, with races beginning at 10 a.m.
