Mayer finishes fourth individually, Trojans beat two four year schools


DUBUQUE (October 12, 2007) - Dan Mayer continued his strong season by finishing fourth overall at the Dr. Robert Tucker Invitational men's cross country race at Loras College as his North Iowa Area Community College team placed fourth overall.


Mayer ran the 8,000-meter race in 26 minutes, 54 seconds. The men's winner, Eric Osterhaus of Simpson College, was clocked in 25:58.


Juan Rodriguez finished 21st individually in 28:18; Sam Meyer was 26th in 28:31; Seth Blanchard was 29th in 28:47; and Sean Coleman was 38th in 29:09 for coach Curtis Vais' squad. Loras College (39) was the team champion, beating Monmouth College (57) of Illinois, Simpson (60), NIACC (93), Cornell (128) and Dubuque University (167).


Entering Friday's meet, the NIACC men's cross country team was ranked 20th in the National Junior College Athletic Association. Mayer was ranked 54th among individuals based on his top clocking this year (26:47) in an 8,000-meter race.
