NIACC Announces 2005-06 Cross Country Signings

NIACC Cross Country has announced the following signings for the 2005-06 school year: Leah Bruns, Mason City; Jamie Halfpop, Garner; Amber Wilde, Osage; Jeremiah Yassin, Des Moines; and Andrew Townsend, Gladbrook. 2005-06 will mark the second season of NIACC’s Cross Country programs.

Bruns, a senior at Mason City High School, has posted a personal record (PR) of 17:12 in the 4K, and also participates in soccer. Halfpop, a senior at Garner-Hayfield, has a PR of 16:54 for the 4K and was second team all-conference in 2002 and 2004. Wilde, a senior at Osage High School, placed 54th at the 2004 Class 2A State Meet with a time of 16:51 after finishing 7th place at the district meet.

On the men’s side, Yassin, a senior at Des Moines East, finished 36th at the Class 4A State Meet (5K) with a time of 16:36 and has a PR of 15:57 for 5K. He also finished 4th at the 2004 State Track Meet in the 1600 and 7th in the 800. Townsend, a senior at Gladbrook-Reinbeck, was a participant at the Class 1A State Cross Country Meet in 2004 after finishing 8th at the district meet. He has a PR of 17:02 for 5K.

NIACC’s Cross Country team, under the direction of Head Coach Curtis Vais, finished a successful first season by sending 6 runners to the NJCAA National Meet last November.
