Six Sign to the NIACC Men's Basketball Roster
Six new names have been added to the NIACC Men's basketball roster for next season ranging from as close as Garner, Iowa to as far away as Australia. Nick Stromer (Garner, IA), Andre Garth (Saint Cloud, MN), Jerel Allen (Muncie, IN), Jacob Templeton (Wynn Vale, South Australia), Harri Harvey (Plympton, Australia), and Andrew Bolton (Gawler, Australia) all make up the newest Trojan Basketball athletes.
Nick Stromer is a 6'6" Forward from Garner-Hayfield High School in Garner, I0wa. Stromer averaged 19.1 points per game, 34% three-point FG, 54% FG, 66% from the free throw line, and 9.6 rebounds per game his senior season. He holds the honors of being a three time 1st Team-All Conference, three time All Substate, and 2nd Team All-State (junior season) recipient. "Nick has a tremendously bright future in the college game," said Head NIACC Coach Mark Mohl. "He is a proven rebounder and an outstanding three-point shooter which is always an asset." Garner-Hayfield went 61-16 in the last three years so Stromer is coming from a winning program which coach Mohl feels is always a benefit.
Andre Garth is a 6'4" Forward from Saint Cloud Apollo High School in Saint Cloud, Minnesota. Garth averaged 19.8 points per game, 98 assists, 73 steals and shot 54%FG his senior season. Garth was named 1st Team All-Conference both Junior and Senior seasons, as well as Honorable Mention All-State. "Andre is a very versatile player. With his quickness and athletic ability he can play a number of different spots for us," said Mohl. "He will be very good in the pressing/running system that we use, holding the ability to play the perimeter as well as the post." Apollo High School went 87-28 in Andre's four years of playing and was also a teammate of current Trojan, Kendall Brown.
Jerel Allen is a 5'7" Guard from Muncie Central High School in Muncie, Indiana. Allen averaged 10.4 points per game, 4 assists per game, and 40% three-point FG his senior season. He received All-Conference Honorable Mention and was the Team Captain his senior year. "Andre is a high energy player who is a great leader as evidence by being a team captain." said Mohl. "Jerel comes form a great High School with a very rich tradition of basketball in Indiana. Jerel Should be able to apply full court defensive pressure and also is a tremendous three-point shooter." Mohl also commented that "We are very excited to be able to sign Jerel, and he plays similar to James Henderson which is a real compliment as James did a terrific job for us this year."
The Following three are all joining the NIACC team from Australia, something that is not entirely new for the Trojans. Coach Mohl is very excited to add more players from Australia, "as Chris Clausen and Max Papendieck both had tremendous years for NIACC this past season and were a wonderful part of NIACC." Jacob Templeton is one of the three International Athletes, a 6'4" Guard from Wynn Vale, South Australia. "Templeton brings a deal of versatility as he can play multiple positions," commented Mohl. "He also has a very high level of wanting to compete, I feel he will pick right up where Chris and Max left off and we are very excited to have him be a part of our team next year."
Harri Harvey is the next Australian to join the Trojan team. A 6'0" Guard from Plympton, Australia, Harvey will be yet another great addition to the NIACC program. "He can play the 1 or 2 spots and would give us good height at the 1," voiced Mohl. "We play many players due to our pressing/running style and Harri will be a wonderful addition for us."
Andrew Bolton is the final player from 'down under' and the tallest, a 6'10" Forward from Gawler, Australia. Mohl commented that "Not only will Andrew give us excellent height, he also can cover the court well and will also fit into our press either on the ball or as the back man in the press." Furthermore, Mohl feels that "the one thing that really sticks out is his ability to run the floor, but at 6'10" he should also have the ability to change some shots on the defensive end."
As Coach Mohl rounds out his recruiting class he's confident in that he has found players that fit into the NAICC style of running and pressing. "All of these players come from great programs with winning records, with these players and the ones we have returning, we feel we have a good nucleus for next year."
