WEEK OF FEBRUARY 22 - FEBRUARY 28, 2010
Nine NIACC Wrestlers head to Des Moines on Wednesday, February 24th to wrestle in the NJCAA National Tournament. There was a total of 42 teams and the NIACC Wrestling team placed 16th! Individually for the Trojans, Brock Coutu placed 7th at 141 and Zach Rosol placed 3rd at 285. Both Zach and Brock were recognized as NJCAA All-Americans. Congratulations to Coach Kelly, his assistant coaches, managers, and the NIACC Wrestlers on a great season!
The NIACC Women's Basketball team was home this week to finish out their regular season play. On Monday, the Lady Trojans defeated Ellsworth CC 87-66. On Wednesday, they beat Iowa Lakes with Amy Boley's 3-point shot 59-58. On Saturday, NIACC played Southeastern and defeated them 71-59. NIACC has a 3-game winning streak going into the ICCAC Tournament. They finished the season with a conference record of 7-11 and an overall record of 13-16. The Lady Torjans will face DMACC on Tuesday, March 2nd at 7:00 pm. The game will be played in Boone. Good luck to Coach Oertel and his Lady Trojans!
The NIACC Men's Basketball team finished out their regular season play at home this week. On Wednesday, they lost to Iowa Lakes 89-79 and on Saturday, they lost to Ellsworth 73-57. The men finished with a 5-9 record in the conference and 17-12 record overall. They will face Iowa Central CC on Wednesday, March 3rd at 7:00pm in Fort Dodge. The NIACC Men's and Women's Track teams are preparing for the NJCAA National Indoor Track & Field Meet which will be held at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL. The NIACC Wrestling team was off for the week as they prepare for the NJCAA Nationals in Des Moines, IA on Thursday, February 25th thru Saturday, February 27th. Good luck to Coach Kelly and his wrestlers!
The NIACC Women's Basketball team was on the road this week losing to Marshalltown 84-68 and Kirkwood 78-59. The women will be at home for three games this week. On Monday, February 22nd, they play a make-up game with Ellsworth, Wednesday they play Iowa Lakes, and Saturday, they play Southeastern.
The NIACC Men's Basketball team was also on the road this week losing a tough game in overtime to Marshalltown 99-85 and also losing to Kirkwood 67-52. The men will host Iowa Lakes on Wednesday, February 24th and Ellsworth on Saturday, February 27th.
The NIACC Women's and Men's Track teams ran another great meet at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake for the NJCAA Region XI Championships. Brittany Weaver broke the school record in the Pentathlon with a score of 2424. Brittany also placed 8th in the 55m Hurdles. Kalyn Kruckenberg continues to run well and improve her time in the 5000m (3rd) and the Mile (2nd). The 4x800m Relay, consisting of Marielle Svardh, Sammy Nelson, Monica Garcia, and Konnie Keifer, were 2010 Region XI Champions! In the 600m, Marielle Svardh captured the championship and Sammy Nelson was right behind her for a second place finish. The men also did well for NIACC. Mitchell Thompson placed 8th in the Shot Put. Ethan Dykstra placed 7th in the 55m Hurdles. In the Men's Mile, Raleigh Morgan placed 7th and Brandon Leibold placed 9th. Chase Wilkinson placed 3rd and Zach McDill placed 6th in the 600m. In the 800m, Raleigh Morgan placed 6th and Chase Anderson placed 10th. The NIACC Women's and Men's teams will travel to St. Olaf in Northfield, MN on Friday, February 26th.
WEEK OF FEBRUARY 1 - FEBRUARY 7, 2010
The NIACC Wrestling team wrestled at Iowa Lakes CC on Wednesday, February 3rd. The wrestlers lost a close one 23-19. The Trojans are preparing for the NJCAA Region VIII tournament in Rochester on Sunday, February 14th and NJCAA Championships in Des Moines Thursday, February 25-Saturday, February 27th.
The NIACC Women's Basketball team traveled to Ellsworth CC on Wednesday, February 3rd. They lost a nail-biter to the Panthers by the score of 64-63. The women then hosted DMACC on Saturday, February 6th and lost another close game by the score of 69-62. The Lady Trojans travel to the American Institute on Wednesday, February 10th and host Southwestern CC on Saturday, February 13th. The game starts at 2:00 pm.
The NIACC Men's Basketball team also traveled to Ellsworth CC on Wednesday, February 3rd. They were defeated by the Panthers 113-78. On Saturday, February 6th, they hosted DMACC and lost to the Bears by the score of 79-69. The Trojans will travel to Clinton CC on Wednesday, February 10th and host Southwestern CC on Saturday, February 13th with a 4:00 pm tip-off.
The NIACC Men's and Women's Track team went to two different meets this weekend. Some of the team went to the Cyclone Open at Iowa State. Raleigh Morgan qualified for Nationals in the 1000m with a time of 2:36.17 finishing 5th. Brandon Leibold had a solid performance in the 5000m running 15:48.29. Kalyn Kruckenberg qualified for Nationals and set a new school record in 5000m with a time of 18:58.13. The rest of the team competed in the Hilltop Invitational at Cornell College in Mt. Vernon. In the Women's 800, Marielle Svardh finsihed 5th with the time of 2:28.95, Sammy Nelson finished 9th with the time of 2:32.10, and Monica Garcia finished 11th with the time of 2:34.43. Monica Garcia finished 9th in the Mile with the time of 5:48.68. For the men, the NIACC Weight Throwers had a great day! Travis Jones had a throw of 12.9m/42-4ft and Corbin Sprung had a throw of 12.8m/42-0ft. The men and women will travel to Buena Vista University on Saturday, February 13th.

Another busy week for the NIACC Athletic teams.
The NIACC Wrestling team traveled to Grand View College in Des Moines on Saturday, January 30th. Jeremiah Barkac placed 6th at 125 lbs. The NIACC Wrestlers travel to Iowa Lakes CC on Wednesday, February 3rd.
The NIACC Women's Basketball team traveled to Iowa Lakes CC on Wednesday, January 27th. They beat the Lakers 56-62. The women hosted Iowa Central on Saturday, January 30th and lost to the 7th ranked Tritons 74-57. The Lady Trojans will be at Ellsworth Community College on Wednesday, February 3rd and at home on Saturday, February 6th. They will host DMACC at 2:00 PM.
The NIACC Men's Basketball team traveled to Iowa Lakes on Wednesday, January 27th and lost to the Lakers by the score of 110-76. The men hosted Iowa Central on Saturday, January 30th and were defeated by the Tritons 83-73. The men will travel to Ellsworth Community College on Wednesday, February 3rd and host DMACC on Saturday, February 6th with a 4:00 PM tip-off.
The NIACC Men's and Women's Track teams traveled to the University of Dubuque on Saturday, January 30th. In the Mile event ,Kalyn Kruckenberg placed 3rd in the mile and qualified for Nationals, Raleigh Morgan placed 3rd, Brandon Leibold placed 4th, and Casey Robertson placed 5th. In the 55 Meter Hurdles, Laurel Murphy placed 2nd and Ethan Dykstra placed 3rd and set a new school record with the time of 8.23. Brandon Leibold was the winner in the 1000 Meter event. On Saturday, February 6th, part of the team will be traveling to Iowa State to compete and the rest of the team will travel to Cornell College in Mount Vernon for the Hilltop Invitational.
WEEK OF JANUARY 18 - JANUARY 24, 2010
The NIACC Wrestling team traveled to Ellsworth Community College for the Panther Duals. The NIACC wrestlers had an outstanding performance going 3-0. NIACC beat Ellsworth 25-19, Ridgewater 22-18, and Rochester 30-18. Awesome job wrestlers and coaches! The NIACC Wrestlers travel to Des Moines on Saturday, January 30th and will wrestle in the Grand View Open.
The NIACC Women's Basketball team played at home on Saturday, January 23rd against third ranked Kirkwood Community College. The women held a 45-42 lead with 14 minutes, 41 seconds remaining but Kirkwood came back and won with a score of 77-53. The NIACC Women will travel to Iowa Lakes on Wednesday, January 27 and host Iowa Central on Saturday, January 30th.
The NIACC Men's Basketball team played at home on Saturday, January 23rd against Kirkwood Community College. With four minutes left in the game, the men had a four point lead. Unfortunately, they could not hang on to the lead and lost the game 68-60. The men will travel to Iowa Lakes on Wednesday, January 27th and host Iowa Central on Saturday, January 30th.
The NIACC Women's and Men's Track teams ran at Iowa State University on Friday, January 22nd and Saturday, January 23rd. The women's Distance Medley Relay (Monica Garcia, Sammy Nelson, Marielle Svardh, and Kalyn Kruckenberg) qualified for Nationals and set a new team record of 13:30.20. In the 3000 meters, Kalyn Kruckenberg qualified for nationals and set a new team record with a time of 11:08.08. In the 60 meter hurdles, Ethan Dykstra set a new team record with the time of 8:81. The NIACC Track teams travel to Dubuque on Saturday, January 30th to compete in the Spartan Invitational.
WEEK OF JANUARY 11 - JANUARY 17, 2010
The NIACC Wrestling team traveled to UNI on January 9-10 to participate in the National Duals. To participate in the tournament, a team has to be invited! The NIACC Wrestling team placed 5th out of 8 teams! The wrestlers traveled to Central College on Saturday. Brock Coutu placed 3rd at 141, Emilio Gonzalez had an awesome 2nd place finish at 157, and Zach Rosol placed 3rd at 285. Way to go guys! The wrestlers will be traveling to Iowa Central on Tuesday, January 19th and to the Panther Duals, in Ellsworth, on Saturday, January 23rd.
On January 13th, the NIACC Women's Basketball team lost a close game at home against AIB College of Business by the score of 50-47. On January 16th, the team traveled to Southwestern CC and defeated the Spartans 88-80. The team then traveled, on January 17th, to Iowa Western CC and lost another close game with the ending score of 68-71. The NIACC Women's Basketball team returns home on January 20th to play Marshalltown CC at 6:00 pm and January 23rd against Kirkwood CC with a 2:00 pm tip-off.
The NIACC Men's Basketball team continues to be playing strong! They were victorious against Gustavus Adolphus JV, Clinton CC, and Southwestern Community College. NIACC will be hosting Kirkwood on Saturday, January 23rd at 4:00 pm.
Even though it is cold outside, our NIACC Men's and Women's Track teams have been practicing for their season. On Friday, January 15th, the men and women participated in a preseason meet at Waldorf College. The only events were relays. The teams will kick off their season and travel to Iowa State on Friday and Saturday.

The NIACC wrestling team will not be traveling to the Pat Flash Open on January 2, 2010. Their next match will be January 9th at the NWCA National Duals.
December 19 the NIACC Men's Basketball team traveled to Iowa Central. They won in a close game finishing 79-74. NIACC hosts Ellsworth CC at home at 8:00 on January 6, 2010.

WEEK OF DECEMBER 7 - DECEMBER 13, 2009
The NIACC men’s basketball team dropped a 76-57 decision to Iowa Western on Sunday at the Emerson Challenge tournament.
In their second game of the tournament it took a little while for the run ’n’ gun NIACC men’s basketball team to get on track Sunday. The No. 13 Trojans and Black Hawk East (Ill.) stood tied 2-2 nearly five minutes into the nonconference game before the shots started falling. The Trojans went on to 49 points to close the first half for a 51-35 lead and coasted to a 113-85 win.
NIACC (11-2) travels to Iowa Central on Saturday.
The Men's Basketball team traveled to Indian Hills on December 10, 2009. Defeated, their record is now 9-1. They return to action this Saturday (December 12, 2009) at the Emerson Challenge tournament.
Due to weather, the home wrestling match scheduled for Wednesday, December 9, 2009 has been postponed to a later date which is yet to be announced.
The Men's Soccer Team had some good post-season news. Sophomore Graham Lynch has been selected to the 2nd Team All-American Roster. Graham in 2008 made 1st Team All-Region with 18 goals and 10 Assists. In the 2009 Season Graham was selected to 2nd Team All-Region with 6 goals and 9 Assists. Coach Regan, said "Graham was such a huge asset to our program, he will be sorely missed and we are in the process of finding him a college to soccer at the next level."
WEEK OF NOVEMBER 30 - DECEMBER 6 2009
The Men's Wrestling Team had a home dual meet this past Wednesday against Minnesota West. The Wrestlers dominated the entire meet with a 4 pins and a final score of 51-0. The team traveled to Simpson College this past Saturday. The team finished 11th in a field of 13 teams.
Men's Basketball played host to Black Hawk East (Moline,Il) on Sunday Dec 6. The Trojans started slow but finished with a flurry on their way to a 113-85 win. The Trojans still ranked at 13th in the National Poll hope to move up closer to Top Ten.
WEEK OF NOVEMBER 23 - NOVEMBER 29 2009
This past Thanksgiving week both Men and Women Basketball teams were in action.
The Men's Basketball Team, ranked number 14, had 2 wins. The first win came November 24th with a 90-61 win over Riverland and a hard fought win against Anoka-Ramsey on the 28th with NIACC winning 95-94.
The Women's Basketball Team started the week out with a win over Riverland by a score of 65-37, but dropped a close game to Anoka-Ramsey, 76-75.
The Men will host Black Hawk East on Sunday, December 6th, at 2PM.
The Women will host Iowa Central JV on Tuesday, December 8th, at 7PM.
WEEK OF NOVEMBER 16 - NOVEMBER 22 2009
On Monday November 16, two NIACC Baseball players signed to play at Division I schools next fall. Parker Moorman from Mason City and a pitcher has signed with IPFW (Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne). Jordan Rishavy from Rochester,MN has signed to play for Northern Illinois University in Dekalb,Il. Coach Todd Rima said of his players," I couldn't be more proud." Both players are happy to get their decisions out of the way and can concentrate on the spring season."
Men's Basketball Team went 3-0 this past week. Their first win was against Rochester this past Wednesday by a score of 85-70. At the Dale Howard Classic NIACC beat Milwaukee Tech with a score of 107-94. Their final win of the week was against North Central 110-78. The team is 6-0 and will return Tuesday at Riverland Community College.
NIACC Women's Basketball Team went 2-1 this past week. Their 76-54 win on Wednesday against Rochester, defending National champs, started off the week. At the Dale Howard Classic NIACC Women defeated Milwaukee Tech 68-50. Saturday's game against Monroe College (New York), ended in a score of 82-77 with a loss. The team now is 3-3 and will return to action Tuesday at Riverland Community College.

Only one fall team sport was in action this past weekend and that was the Men and Women's Cross Country Teams who were competing at Nationals in Peoria,IL. There were 35 Teams in each of the Men and Women category. For the Men the team finished 11th with the top runner of NIACC going to Brandon Liebold with a time of 26:58. The top finisher for NIACC on the women's team which finished 20th of the 35 teams went to Kalyn Kruckenberg with a overall finish at 53 and a time of 20:01. Congratulations on a Great Year.

WEEK OF NOVEMBER 2 - NOVEMBER 8, 2009
This week team's finished Playoffs, the Men's and Women's Basketball Teams and Wrestling Team started their seasons.
The Lady Trojan's Volleyball Team ended their season playing in the Regional Championship Game against Iowa Lakes on Saturday. In a hard fought match the Lady Trojan's bowed out in four sets. The Lady Trojan's season ended with a 22-18 record and is looking forward an even better season next year. Congrats to all!
The Men's Basketball Team has started off with a bang. In an exhibition game on Friday the Trojans beat Johnson Financial All-Stars. In their first real game, the Trojans used a run and gun style of play to beat Anoka Ramsey 96-84.
The Lady Trojans Basketball Team played two tough games against nationally ranked Illinois Central College and Anoka Ramsey. The Lady Trojans dropped the first game by a score of 73-52 and the second 74-68.
Both Men and Women Basketball Teams will be in action November 10 at home against Riverland Community College.
The Wrestling Team opened up its season by hosting the Kaye Young Invite on Saturday. Approximately 175-200 wrestlers competed with two wrestlers receiving third place finishes.
WEEK OF OCTOBER 25 - NOVEMBER 1, 2009
This week started Playoffs, Regional's and Cross Divisional for the Fall Sports Teams.
Men's Soccer started their push to a possible Regional Championship Game with a 3-1 victory on Tuesday over Iowa Lakes. With that win the team traveled to Des Moines,IA for a Semi-final match against Iowa Central. Winner goes on to the Championship game on Sunday for a shot to Nationals. The game finished in a 1-1 tie in regulation, and after two 10 minute periods, so the game would be decided on Penalty Kick Shootout. In the end Iowa Central prevailed 4-3 in the shootout. The Trojans season ends at an impressive 14-4-2 mark. Great Season.
The Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams traveled to Peoria, Illinois for their Regional Championship on October 31st.
Their were five teams registered to compete in the 8K run. NIACC finished third out of the five. The top runner for NIACC was Raleigh Morgan who finished 3rd overall with a time of 28:22. Raleigh was named to First Team All-Region. Brandon Liebold took ninth and named to Second Team All-Region. On the Women' s Side there were four teams competing in the 5K run. NIACC as a team finished second with Kalyn Kruckenberg being the top NIACC runner with a time of 20:38. Kruckenberg was named to First Team All-Region.
With a great showing at Regionals both teams have qualified for Nationals back in Peoria, Ill on November 14. Good Luck to all.
The Lady Trojan's Volleyball Team traveled to Marshalltown Community College this past Friday and Saturday to compete in the Cross Divisional Tournament. The team did well with a overall record of 3-2 in the five matches they played. The teams had wins against Clinton, Southeastern and Southwestern on Friday and then lost to DMACC and Kirkwood on Saturday. The team will travel to DMACC in a tune-up match on Tuesday, November 3rd. The match is a good match leading into Regional's at Fort Dodge,IA on November 5 - 7.2009. Winner of the Regional heads off to National at Wisconsin Dells. Hope you make the "Ship".
WEEK OF OCTOBER 14 - OCTOBER 25, 2009
Overall a slow week in NIACC Athletics but a successful one considering the bad weather that had to be endured.
The Men's Soccer team went 1-1 this week with a tough loss to Iowa Central 2-1 , the team bounced back on Saturday with a 2-1 win over Indian Hill CC. Going into the conference tournament NIACC has the number 3 seed with a record of 11-4-2 overall and 9-4-1 in conference. NIACC has to wait until sometime Monday to find out their opponent to begin the tournament.
The Lady Trojan Volleyball Team after their long weekend at the Dells came up with victories over Ellsworth and Marshalltown. The two victories were both conference wins and put them in second place behind Iowa Lakes in the Region North Standings.
The Lady Trojans have their final home matches this Monday the 26th and Wednesday the 28th. The 28th is Dig the Pink Night and encourage every one attending the game wear pink, in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
WEEK OF OCTOBER 13 - OCTOBER 18,2009
The Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams ran in the Dr. Tucker Invitational sponsored by Loras College in Dubuque,IA on October 16th. The 8K Men's race had almost 150 runners from 4 colleges. NIACC Men finished second behind host Loras College with Sophomore Casey Robertson finishing 3rd overall with a time of 27:15. In the 6K race for the women there were 3 teams and around 40 runners with Freshman Kalyn Kruckenberg finishing 6th overall and top NIACC finisher with a time of 24:33. Next up will Super Regional in Peoria,Il on October 31st.
The Men's Soccer team improved to 10-3-2 this past week with two impressive wins. The first win came against rival #7 Marshalltown with a 3-1 victory on the road. October 17th came a 2-1 win over Iowa Western at Home. Next up will be a road game at Iowa Central on October 21.
The Lady Trojans Volleyball Team traveled to Wartburg College and lost to their JV team in 5 sets to put their record at 11-12. From October 15-17 the team had their big tournament away at Wisconsin Dells. After a 3-2 weekend and for the most part a successful weekend the team is back to .500 at 14-14. The team will be looking to go back over the .500 mark with a home match on October 20 against Ellsworth and on the road against Marshalltown on October 22. Good Luck!!
WEEK OF OCTOBER 5 - OCTOBER 12,2009
The Men's Soccer Team had two shutouts this week while improving their record to 8-3-2. The team beat Iowa Lakes on the 7th by the score of 4-0 and this past Saturday beat MATC from Madison,Wi 3-0. The team travels to #7 Marshalltown on the 13th of October.
The Lady Trojans volleyball team had only one match this past week and it was against conference leading Iowa Lakes. The team lost in three to put their record at 11-11. Monday the team plays the JV team from Wartburg and later in the week travels to the Wisconsin Dells for a tournament.
The Men's and Women's Cross Country Team traveled to Waverly,IA to compete in the Dan Huston Invitational. A total of 24 teams and close to 400 runners combined to run in the 8k for men and 6k for women. NIACC best finishers were Casey Robertson for the men at 26:59 and for the women Kalyn Kruckenberg with a time of 24:15. The team will run in the Dr. Tucker Invite in Dubuque,IA on October 16th. Finally basketball season has started with both teams having scrimmages coming up. The regular season will start on Nov 6th with the Konigsmark Klassic.
The Fall Athletic Season for the 2009/10 Academic Year has started!!
This past week was a good one for the NIACC Athletic teams.
The Men's Soccer Team went 2-1, with wins against Iowa Central and Indian Hills Community Collleges. I n Saturday's game which was away in Ottumwa,Ia Riess St. Hillaire and Graham Lynch each had a first half goal, with the final score being 3-1, NIACC. The team will resume action on Sept 29, against Dakota County at home .
The Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams competed in the Brissman/Lundeen Invite in Davenport. The Men's Team finished 9th with Casey Robertson finishing 31st with a time of 26:32. The Women's Team finished 17th and Kalyn Kruckenberg finishing 33rd with a time of 21:27.
The Lady Trojans Volleyball Team ended with a 2-1 mark this week. The Lady Trojans had a much needed conference win against Marshalltown and then dominated Riverland on Saturday 3-0. The team is 9-7 and a two match win streak. The team will be on the road this next week and will return home on October 5th against Iowa Central.
The Fall Athletic Season for the 2009/10 Academic Year has started!!
The NIACC Men's Soccer team has started to quick 3-1-2 record with victories against Moraine Valley CC in Palos Hills,IL, Iowa Lakes CC and their only loss was to #7 Marshalltown. The team will travel to Iowa Western this Saturday for a 2:00pm start time.
The Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams ran in the 16th Annual Mustang Gallop on September 5, 2009 at Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids.Iowa.
The Men's Team finished second in the team standings right behind Viterbo from Wisconsin. The women finished fourth but Kyla Kruckenberg had a personal best in the 4k with a time of 16:13 and that places her with the fourth best time in the history at NIACC at the 4i.
The Women's Volleyball Team has gotten out to a 5-3 record and hope to improve on that when they travel to Marshalltown for a 5 match tournament. The team is getting more used to each other and changes to their game.
