2009 NJCAA Nationals
Trojan Sophomore, Marin Thorson, placed 5th in the Discus at National's last week with a throw of 43.05 m. Thorson went down as the NJCAA defending discus champion. Even though she was unable to claim the title for a second year, she had the positive mind set that it was better than nothing. The Women's 4x800 team (Dahn, Mujica, Garcia, Svardh) placed 13th while Casey Robertson placed 14th in the Steeplechase.

Central Last Chance Meet
NIACC Trojans competed in their last meet before nationals Wednesday in Pella, IA. Emily Mujica placed 4th in the 400 m (63.63), Monica Garcia finished 3rd in the 15000m (5:24.22), and Marin Thorson placed 1st place in the Discus with a distance of 47.06m. For the men, Paul Guenther finished 2nd (59.17) in the 400m Hurdles, and Casey Robertson was 1st in the 3000m Steeplechase (10:14.97). Trojans head to Hutchinson, KS May 21-23 to compete in the NJCAA National Outdoor Championships.

Region XI Championships
Trojans, Paul Guenther and Laurel Murphy, set new team records in the 400 hurdles at the Region XI meet in Council Bluffs. Sophomore, Marin Thorson, brings home the Region XI Championship in the Discuss. The Trojans have one last meet (Last Chance Open at Central College May, 13) before those who have earned a ticket head down to Hutchinson, Kansas for the NJCAA National Outdoor Championships.

Rain for Shine Trojans Compete at Kip Janvrin Open
No matter the weather the meet ran on. Trojan men and women ran this past weekend at Simpson College in the Kip Janvrin Open. Beck Dahn placed 6th in the 400 meter dash (60.12) and 9th in the 200 meter dash (27.58). The Lady 4x100 team finished 3rd (53.24) and freshman, Laurel Murphy, placed 8th in the 100 meter hurdles. Teammate, Emily Mujica, placed 15th in the 800 meter run (2:26.42). For the men, Darrel Elliot placed 5th in the Triple Jump (13.29m), while Josh Willert was 14th in the 400 meter dash (51.37). Nathan Dick finished 21st in the 110 meter hurdles (17.16). No team scores were kept.

NIACC Trojans Run Tough Against Competitive Competition
In the Trojans first team scored meet, they placed in the middle of a very competitive pack of competitors. The women finished 8th out of fourteen teams, while the men finished 9th of seventeen teams. Stand out Trojans from the Dick Young Classic at Grinnell College were Sophomore women, Becky Dahn and Marin Thorson and Freshman men, Casey Robertson and Brandon Leibold.
Thorson won the discus throw with a distance of 42.90m edging out Drake University's, Megan Pierce-Cramer by .37m. While Dahn took 2nd in the 400 meters with the time of 60.35. Both Robertson and Leibold broke team records in their events over the weekend. Robertson placed 4th in the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 9:53.81 and qualified for nationals. Leibold took 6th in the 10,000 meters (33:43.68) breaking the record held by Juan Rodriguez and placing him on track to be a NIACC top cross country runner next fall.

Trojans Run Strong at Loras Open
The NIACC track and field team continued to run strong in their season's second meet on Wednesday in Dubuque. Trojan sprinter, Becky Dahn, finished 6th in the 100 meter dash finals and 5th in the 200 meter dash. Amanda Wright and Laurel Murphy both made the finals in the 100 meter hurdles finishing 5th and 7th. For the men, 3rd and 6th place finishes were earned in the 5000 meters by Raleigh Morgan and Torey Stallsmith. High Jumper, Clarence Jackson, finished 2nd and fellow teammate, Darrel Elliot, also placed 2nd in the Triple Jump. Teams competing yesterday included; Loras, Luther, Simpson, Dubuque, Iowa Central, and Coe. No team scores were kept.

Successful Outdoor Season Opener
The Trojans began their outdoor season at the Central Invite in Pella, IA on Saturday. For the women; sophomore Marin Thorson (St Ansgar) qualified for Nationals in the Discus with a distance of 131.09 feet, and Amanda Wright (St Ansgar) finished 7th in the 100 Hurdles. Women's 4x100 team (Brittany Weaver-Garner, Laurel Murphy-Des Moines, Sarah Humphrey-Elkhart, and Becky Dahn-Lake Mills) finished 9th.
For the men; TC Jokumsen (Elkader) finished 10th in the 400 hurdles, Casey Robertson (Columbus Junction) placed 3rd in the steeplechase, and Darrel Elliot finished 7th in the triple jump.
