
Schwab, an Osage native, served as head coach at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake for the past four seasons. Schwab was named Iowa Conference Coach of the Year in 2007. The Beavers tied for 2nd in the Iowa Conference duals in 2008. Schwab also coached the first 4-time NCAA All-American in the 30 year history of BVU wrestling, Jestin Hulegaard. Schwab said “In our 3 recruiting classes we make tremendous gains, we were not consistent but there was clear improvement” After 2 recruiting classes the Beavers went from 31st, 21st, 7th.
Prior to BVU, Schwab spent nine years as a full time assistant coach at the University of Minnesota, helping the program to seven top-three finishes and two NCAA championships. Schwab also served as an assistant coach at Purdue University in Lafayette, IN (1991-93), and at the University of Northern Iowa, his college alma mater (1990-91. He graduated from UNI with a degree in Criminology and in 2003; Schwab earned a Masters degree in Education while at the University of Minnesota.
While competing at UNI, Schwab posted a 49-9 record in his initial season, the most wins by a true freshman in NCAA history, and placed fifth in the 1986 NCAA Division 1 Championships. In 1987, Schwab red-shirted and won the bronze medal in what was called the World’s Toughest Tournament in Tbilisi, Russia. And won a bronze medal for the U.S. team at the World Cup event in Ulan Bator, Mongolia. A knee injury and a staph infection combined to keep Schwab off the mats for more than a year spanning his sophomore and junior year. But Schwab finished his senior year and career with a second Div 1 all American honor.
Schwab’s prep wrestling career was nearly flawless as he won 106 of 107 matches and earned four state titles for Osage High while earning three Junior National Freestyle titles and a national championship in the Greco-Roman category. Schwab was inducted into the Iowa High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame, the Iowa Wrestling Hall of Fame and the Glen Brand Hall of Fame.

Coach Vance comes to NIACC after serving as assistant wrestling coach at Charles City High School from 2005-07. Prepping at Charles City, Vance was a two-time state qualifier earning runner-up honors as a senior. Vance continued his wrestling career at Iowa Central Community College. At Iowa Central he was a two-time Academic All-American, while placing fourth both years there. After Iowa Central, he continued at the University of Iowa where he was a member of the Hawkeyes wrestling team. Vance has directed the Northeast Iowa Wrestling Technique Camp since 2000. Most recently Coach Vance was awarded with the Iowa Sports Foundation Male Athlete of the Year!
Coach Sebolt comes to NIACC after spending the 2006-07 season at Iowa State University as a competitor for the Cyclones. At the collegiate level, Sebolt spent the 2006-07 season competing for Cael Sanderson at Iowa State and won the prestigious University of Nebraska-Omaha Kaufman-Brand Open at 141 pounds as a red-shirt, but did not compete after that due to a shoulder injury. Most recently, Sebolt finished in 6th place at the Junior FILA Freestyle Championships in Las Vegas, NV. at 66 kg/145.5 lbs.
Sebolt, from Centerville, IA, completed his high school career at Centerville with four Iowa state titles and a stellar career record of 207 wins and only one loss. Sebolt's 207 victories is an Iowa high school record. Other records that Sebolt holds is most consecutive wins with 197 and Most pins with 137. Sebolt also claimed the 2003 Junior National Freestyle Championship in Fargo, ND. Sebolt's duties will be primarily focusing on the smaller weights at NIACC.
