NJCAA National Wrestling Tournament

 

Congratulations to Coach Kelly, his assistant coaches, and the NIACC Wrestlers!  The team placed 16th out of 42 team in Des Moines this past weekend.  Zach Rosol placed 3rd at 285 and Brock Coutu placed 7th at 141. 

Both Zach and Brock were recognized as NJCAA All-Americans!

Legendary NIACC Wrestling Coach headed to Hall

 

Kaye Young   Kaye Young has competed in the Iowa State Wrestling

   Tournament as a captain and third place winner for the 1953

   state champions, East Waterloo.  On Saturday night, 84 years,

   to the day, after his father, Gordon, was a finalist in the first

   state tournament sanctioned by the IHSAA (1926), he will have

   a different role as a Hall of Fame inductee.

 

   Kaye Young started the NIACC Wrestling program and coached

   for 10 years finishing with a 126-18-2 record.  After three

   national runner-up teams, Kaye and his NIACC team won the national tournament in 1973.  He was also named the National Coach of the Year.

 

Kaye has coached Olympian Joe Corso, two-time national junior college champion Joe Hatchett, and national JUCO champions Robert Fouts and Tom Garcia.

 

Kaye, a Mason City native and avid NIACC Wrestling fan, is an award-winning poet and the father of three sons - Mark, Michael, and Matthew.

02/15/10- Congratulations to Coach Kelly and the NIACC Wrestlers!  THe NIACC Wrestlers competed at the NJCAA Region VIII Tournament in Rochester, MN on Saturday, February, 14th.  The NIACC Wrestling team finished third, crowned two champions, and will be sending nine wrestlers to the National Tournament!  Congratulations to the following wrestlers!

            125 - Jeremiah Barkac 3rd place            133 - Ali Mohammed 5th place

            141 - Brock Coutu Champion                 149 - Jon Rivera 3rd place

            157 - Emelio Gonzales 4th place             165 - Isaiah Tatum 2nd place

            184 - Taylor Morrow 5th place               197 - Will Worthy 5th place

            HWT - Zach Rosol - Champion

02/11/10 - The NIACC Wrestling team wrestled at Iowa Lakes CC on Wednesday, February 3rd.  The wrestlers lost a close one 23-19.  The Trojans are preparing for the NJCAA Region VIII tournament in Rochester on Sunday, February 14th and NJCAA Championships in Des Moines  Thursday, February 25-Saturday, February 27th.

 


 

02/01/10 - NIACC wrestling headed in the right direction.  More

 


 

 

12/02/09 - NIACC Wrestlers shut out visiting Minnesota West 51-0. NIACC had a team high 4 pins. The dual meet was the first home meet for the wrestlers. The wrestlers will have one more home meet. Dec 9, 2009 at 7PM at the Main Gym. The wrestlers will play host to Rochester CC from Minnesota.
