Building Trades students develop the skills they need to succeed in construction through a combination of hands-on instruction at NIACC and mentored supervision on construction job sites. Daily instruction at NIACC includes Building Trades theory and hands-on experience in a state-of the-art lab, as well as on the project job site. Students receive step-by-step instructions and practice developing carpentry skills.

During the summer, students are placed in paid internships with North Iowa contractors. Those who complete the one-year program receive a NIACC diploma and are prepared for employment in residential, commercial, or industrial construction.

The demand for skilled construction workers is near an all-time high in North Iowa. The recent explosion of building projects is expected to continue for quite some time. This means great job opportunities and good wages for you!

Upon completion of the construction program at NIACC you will be trained to do carpentry work in any of the following areas:

Private North Iowa contractors formed the Contractors' Advisory Association to advise and assist in setting-up the program, in determining which skills will be taught, and in providing industry support and future employment for program graduates. Our graduates learn the construction techniques they need to earn a good wage by working safely and productively.

The placement rate in jobs for NIACC Building Trades graduates is 100%.
