Course Descriptions
The General Machinist Program at North Iowa Area Community College is designed to provide
in-depth study and considerable hands-on skills in the machine processing of a variety of
metals. The one-year diploma program provides the foundation for the Tool & Die Technology degree program.
Learning in NIACC's Murphy Manufacturing Technology Center,
students become proficient with mills, lathes, grinders, drills, and saws.
Precision-measuring equipment is used to check quality, and additional work in blueprint
reading, heat-treating, and computer numerical controlled (CNC) machining is
involved.
