The Murphy Center serves as the regional Manufacturing Technology Tech Prep Academy. Through an innovative partnership with surrounding schools, 20 high school seniors are able to attend Tool & Die Technology classes at the Center and complete one full year of the program by the time they graduate from high school.
A combination of articulated high school course work and NIACC classes allows these students, who spend half of each school day at the Murphy Center, to complete the General Machinist Program while still in high school. Since all tuition, fees, and textbook costs are paid through a combination of high school, NIACC, and special state incentive funding, the first year of college is absolutely free to participating students. In addition, they receive a head start on their career training and may earn their Associate Degree with just one additional year at NIACC.
