High School Credit Program Procedures for Enrollment:

1. The prospective student arranges enrollment approval with the local high school principal or counselor. The Student Learning Center (SLC) Staff is available to assist the student and the school in coordinating this.

2. The local high school forwards a letter to the SLC indicating approval for the student to enroll in a specific course or courses. Although the letter may list more than one class, a student may enroll in only one class at a time.

3. The student schedules an appointment with a high school credit instructor by calling the SLC. The student then appears at the SLC, completes a registration form, pays the course fee and workbook fee (if applicable), and is given materials, course description, and an orientation to the operation of the SLC. The fee must be paid before textbooks will be issued.

4. A student file is started for storing all completed course materials.

5. Courses must be completed within six months from the enrollment date.

6. The instructor supervises the student in the SLC, assists as necessary, and is responsible for periodically evaluating progress and recording scores and grades. The scheduling for attendance is flexible and mainly determined by cooperative involvement of school, student, and the SLC staff. Students should plan on a minimum of 60 hours of work per credit. If the high school wishes, the SLC staff will structure and report a curriculum of an agreed upon number of hours.

7. Upon completion of a semester course, a certified High School Credit Transcript is forwarded promptly to the local high school indicating the subject, date completed, credit, and grade. A copy of the transcript will be sent to the student. All materials, including textbooks and workbooks, must be returned to the SLC before the transcript will be sent.

8. Supporting evidence of the grade and credit earned will be furnished to the local school upon request.

The High School Credit program is located in the Student Learning Center, Beem Center, North Iowa Area Community College.

Beem Center, Room 103 (515) 422-4266, or 1-888-GO NIACC, ext 4266.
