Prerequisite: MAT-063, Elementary Algebra, or 40:060, Beginning Algebra, or equivalent. 

Course Description:

A one-semester college chemistry course which surveys important concepts and topics of chemistry. This course is not intended for science majors (but may be appropriate as preparation for a more thorough beginning chemistry course).  Among these are the metric system of measurement, atomic theory of matter, energy levels and atomic structure, the periodic table, ionic and molecular compounds, ionic and covalent bonding, chemical reactions, and reaction equations and calculations.  High school chemistry is not a prerequisite.  Laboratory work is an important part of this course.  (45-30) 
Equivalent to 70-140, CHEM-101. 

Notes: C -The student must purchase a WebCT Access Code along with the textbook from the NIACC College Bookstore. S - This course uses an electronic laboratory simulation program that must be temporarily installed on the student's computer.
